I'm 20 and I've been making knives professionally since 2020!
I was homeschooled and have 4 older brothers, so the shop has always been a place I've felt quite comfortable in.
I've been doing everything from pyrography to making bows from sticks since I was about twelve, so knives weren't a far cry from the norm.
I got into knife making because it was in front of me and God took it and ran!
I started my first knife when I was 15 but found I just didn't have the right equipment to do it justice, so like any 15 year old girl I ran to mom and dad who, as objectively the most supportive parents on the planet, bought me my very first grinder.
After I finished my first sorry attempt at a knife mom saw something I apparently did not; potential.
After some discussion to the effect of you'll never know if you don't give it a shot, she sent out some emails to some local knife makers and shortly afterwards we made our first visit to Helton Forge.
Let me just say I had a blast.
After a few visits Mr. Helton seemed to think I had enough potential to warrant further interest and in turn hired me as an apprentice.
While under his instruction I had the opportunity to take the basic knife course at North East Tech in Pryor, Oklahoma and its only gotten crazier from there!
1st of January, 2022
I launched my company Scissortail Bladeworks
since then I have personally made well over 200 knives,
which may sound small to some but to me its been wild!
Learning how to run a business has been quite the adventure,
I quickly found I don't have the skills or the patience to do it all myself, and for the sake of my sanity hired my lovely sister-in-law Hannah as my media administrator.
...but even that wasn't enough after my debut on
History Channel's Forged in Fire
and so I began outsourcing my leather work to none other than master seamstress Anastasia Howard ..aka Mom.
When Forged in Fire put out their casting call for season 9 I put in for an application but after receiving it I concluded I was not equal to the task. When I failed to turn my application back in the assistant casting director had some questions and after speaking with him over the phone it would seem he drew a different conclusion.
In June of 2022 I was featured on Forged in Fire season 9 Episode 12
alongside two incredible other smiths and by God's grace I was afforded the title of youngest female champion!
Publications on prominent media pages, magazines, and two separate local news stations, have been just a few of the amazing opportunities God has given me through my appearance on Forged in Fire and my business has grown by leaps and bounds because of them!
I could never do what I do today without the people who constantly lift me up and support me when I find myself incapable of handling it all. I owe so much to the people in my life who are always there, no matter how badly I screw up.
You know who you are and if I called you all out by name the list would go on forever.
I have been, and am continually blessed by a God so overwhelmingly loving I have no words!
I cannot wait to see what God has in store for little me!
